The lodge
One&Only Gorilla's Nest sits in a eucalyptus forest on the edge of Volcanoes National Park, close to the Kinigi briefing point, so trek mornings start without a long drive. Accommodation is in spacious, elevated suites and private villas with fireplaces, deep baths and forest views; there's a spa, a restaurant built around Rwandan produce, and staff who know the gorilla routine inside out — boots cleaned overnight, a hot drink ready when you return from the forest.
Other top-tier lodges near the park — Bisate Lodge and Singita Kwitonda among them — can be substituted on request. See where to stay for a comparison.
Itinerary
Day 1
Kigali → One&Only Gorilla's Nest
Private transfer north from Kigali (around 2.5 hours) at a civilised hour. Lunch on arrival, an afternoon at the spa or a guided village walk, and a briefing from your guide on the next two days.
Day 2
First gorilla trek
A short drive to the Kinigi briefing for 7:00 AM, then your first trek and hour with a gorilla family. Back to the lodge for a late lunch and a quiet afternoon.
Day 3
Second gorilla trek → Kigali
Your second trek, with a different family — different personalities, different terrain, often a completely different kind of encounter. Lunch at the lodge, then private transfer back to Kigali or the airport.

Why two treks
Gorilla families vary enormously. One might be resting in a clearing in soft light; another might be moving through dense bamboo, feeding noisily, with juveniles wrestling around you. A first trek can be cut short by heavy rain or a family that moves fast. A second trek on another day is the single best way to guarantee the encounter you've imagined — and almost everyone who does two says the second was entirely different from the first.

Luxury safari questions
How much is the luxury gorilla safari at One&Only Gorilla's Nest?
From $13,850 per person (two sharing a Forest Treehouse) up to $38,100 per person for the Silverback Lodge suite with private pool. Every option includes two nights at One&Only Gorilla's Nest, two gorilla permits, a private 4x4 with dedicated guide, and Kigali transfers.
What is included in the luxury gorilla safari?
Two nights at One&Only Gorilla's Nest in your chosen room, two gorilla permits ($1,500 each) for two treks with different families, a private 4x4 with a dedicated guide throughout, transfers from Kigali and back, and meals at the lodge.
Which One&Only Gorilla's Nest room is best for families?
The Susa Treehouse, a two-bedroom treehouse that sleeps three. With three sharing it works out at $10,700 per person. Gorilla trekkers must be 15 or older.
Why two gorilla treks?
Every family is different — in size, character and the terrain where it lives. A second trek on a different day means a second, different encounter, and spreads the risk of a short or rainy first visit.
Can I stay at Bisate or Singita Kwitonda instead?
Yes. We can quote any of the top lodges around Volcanoes National Park; price depends on the lodge and season.
Can the luxury safari include a helicopter transfer?
Helicopter transfers between Kigali and the Volcanoes region can be arranged on request, subject to availability and weather. Ask us for a quote.
