Who we are

About Rwanda Gorilla Permits

A Kigali team that books gorilla permits and runs gorilla treks, every week, all year.

Rwanda Gorilla Permits is the gorilla trekking service of Rwanda Safari Tours, a tour operator licensed by the Rwanda Development Board and based in Kigali since 2014. This site exists for one reason: to make booking a gorilla trek in Rwanda clear, honest and easy.

Why a separate gorilla site?

Most of the questions we receive are about gorillas: how permits work, what they really cost, how hard the trek is, which tour to choose. Our main site covers all of Rwanda. This one goes deep on a single subject — gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park — so you can find every answer in one place, written by the people who do the work.

How we work

  • Prices shown in full. We publish the $1,500 permit and our service fee separately on every tour page and quote.
  • Permit first. We confirm your permit with RDB before building the rest of your trip, so you never pay for a trip without a gorilla date.
  • Local team. Our office, vehicles and driver-guides are in Rwanda.
  • Honest advice. If a budget trek, a different month or even Uganda suits you better, we'll say so.
  • Conservation first. We brief every guest on the rules that protect the gorillas, and we support the porters' and community programmes around the park.

A note on gorilla permits

Gorilla permits are issued by the Rwanda Development Board. We are not RDB; we are a licensed private operator that books permits on our guests' behalf and runs the trek logistics around them. Any operator can access the same permits at the same $1,500 price — what you choose when you choose an operator is the service.

About this website

Every guide on this site is written by our team and reviewed as prices and rules change. Photographs are used under Creative Commons licences and credited on each image and on our photo credits page. If you spot something out of date, please tell us — we'd rather fix it than have you arrive with wrong information.
