Every gorilla trek in Rwanda starts with a flight into Kigali. Here's how travellers typically get there, and how to plan your arrival around your gorilla permit.
Fly into Kigali (KGL)
Kigali International Airport is Rwanda's main gateway, about 2.5 hours by road from Volcanoes National Park. Rwanda's national carrier, RwandAir, connects Kigali with Europe, the Middle East and many African cities, and several international airlines serve Kigali directly or via their hubs. Routes and schedules change, so always check current options when booking.
Typical routings
| From | Typical connections |
|---|---|
| USA & Canada | Via a European hub, the Gulf, Istanbul, Addis Ababa or Nairobi |
| UK | Direct services have operated from London at times; otherwise via Europe, the Gulf or Africa |
| Europe | Via Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, Istanbul and others |
| South Africa | Johannesburg to Kigali, direct or via East African hubs |
| Rest of Africa | Via Nairobi, Addis Ababa, Entebbe and other regional hubs |
Check the airline's current timetable before booking; we're happy to suggest arrival times that fit your gorilla date.
